Antique headboard
A year after his wife died, Walter Zolezzi, part owner of the San Francisco antiques gallery Therien & Co., decided to make changes to his Nob Hill condominium, where he had European antiques spread over the 3,000 square feet.
Yet, because the lightning hit the attic, it took more than an hour to start smelling the smoke.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic. As a result, officials called for a second-alarm, which meant 36 fire trucks reported to the scene.
The couple got out safely with their pets, and when the flames were out and the sun came up, firefighters along with family and friends helped salvage antique furniture and other important items.
While it took less than an hour to put out the flames, the fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.
The couple said they have lived in the home since 1997 but will likely stay in a hotel until their dream home can be rebuilt
